Charity for homeless
Oct. 19th, 2009 01:24 amHomeless people here in America and there in Russia are very different. Of course, here you can meet people who definitely doesn't smell like roses but in general their clothes are cleaner newer and generally just better then theirs Russian colleagues. If here you see somebody in wheelchair same person in Russia would be on crouches. Russian poor people just can't afford wheelchairs and plain insurance usually doesn't cover it. Lots of people have portable music players, many talk by cell phones and that is impossible in Russia because it is too expensive for homeless. Some definitely has mental problems, some looks like hitchhikers in good hiking boots, well equipped, with nice backpacks.
Range of behavior is very wide too, from shy and quiet to rude and annoying. Some of those people is nice and friendly, some desperate and mean. Some totally don't look like homeless, just life's curve was too sharp for them and they had no other choice. Seen mother with children, seen girl in predator-like contacts, people who just didn't want to talk at all.
I talked to one guy, he hold book in his hand and I asked what he is reading. We talked little bit, he was not really surprised when found out I'm from Russia, just said me standard phrase: Welcome to America!
It was very good experience I had loots of emotions and I had opportunity to help people who are not able to help themselves. It was very interesting to compare to societies and two countries.
